A rare and iconic vintage zodiac pendant by Van Cleef & Arpels. This pisces pendant, and the other designs in this 1960s -1970s zodiac series, was made to recallan ancient roman coin, with the slightly craggy textural qualities you would expect to find in somethingancient, and with nicksat the edges that are integral to the design. In ancient times merchants might nick the edge of a gold coin to discover if it was good, and solid, or a clever fugazi. This pendant isinscribed"Van Cleef & Arpels," and "Made in France;" it is marked for 18k gold and for the masterGeorges L'Enfant on the large bail. These pendants are rarely offered and were never reproduced after their original run in the 1960s - 70s.
